Biography

Outstanding and committed higher education leader with 13 years’ experience, Principal Fellow of Advance HE (PFHEA), nominated for numerous teaching awards and winner of Teacher of the Year in 2019 Manchester Met Student Union Teaching Awards. I have a strong external and internal profile of impact through leadership of positive change and excellence in educational leadership and outstanding educational practice. My personal pedagogy, education vision and values are of social justice and equality of opportunity. I joined Manchester Met in 2009 as a PhD student and started my teaching career in 2010 as an Associate Lecturer. I am now a Reader in the Department of Health Professions. From 2015 to 2019, I was Programme Lead for BSc (Hons) Nutritional Sciences. In 2019, I became Department Education Lead in Health Professions thus expanding my education leadership at a strategic level to a diverse portfolio of programmes. I have been Department Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead in Health Professions since 2021. I am a Fellow of the Association for Nutrition, and a Registered Nutritionist passionate about regulation of nutrition and other health professions, and standards of health professions education.

Academic and professional qualifications

I completed my first degree (Masters of Pharmacy) at the Medical University of Gdańsk in 2006, where I gained knowledge of a broad spectrum of health and science-based disciplines, such as Biochemistry, Human Physiology and Chemistry. In 2009, I enrolled on a PhD study in Manchester Metropolitan University. I started teaching on Nutrition and Food courses at Manchester Met in January 2010. In 2013, I completed my PhD in Food Science and Human Nutrition with the thesis “Sourdough bread enriched with soluble fibres: development, characterisation and nutritional aspects of a functional food product.” I am registered with Association for Nutrition (AfN) as Registered Nutritionist (Nutrition Science) and in 2023 I was awarded Fellowship of Association for Nutrition (FAfN). I am an assessor of portfolios and accreditation and I serve on the Accreditation Committee for the Association for Nutrition. I am a Principal Fellow of Higher Education Academy. I have level 5 Award in Leadership from the Institute of Leadership and Management.

Other academic service (administration and management)

Currently, I am Department Education Lead, and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead in the Department of Health Professions. I am a member of Health Professions Senior Leadership Group and Faculty of Health and Education Education Team. I chair Equitable Experience and Outcomes Group in the Faculty of Health and Education.

Languages

I speak fluently English, and Polish. I have intermediate skills in German.

Prizes and awards

In 2019 Manchester Met Student Union Teaching Awards, I was awarded Teacher of the Year.

Membership of professional associations

I am a Registered Nutritionist on the Association for Nutrition UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists (UKVRN). In 2023, I was recognised as Fellow of Association for Nutrition (FAfN). I serve as  Chair of the AfN Accreditation Committee. I am also an Accreditation Assessor, Registration Assessor, and CPD Assessor for the AfN. I am a Principal Fellow of Advance HE (PFHEA).
