Research outputs

My research spans psychology and psychiatric epidemiology, with a particular focus on maternal and paternal perinatal mental health and its impact on offspring development across the lifespan. I am particularly interested in the role that parenting plays in the intergenerational transmission of mental health risks in families. I currently share my time between Manchester Metropolitan University and Bristol University, where I work on an interdisciplinary programme of research examining the role of paternal involvement, parenting and father’s own mental health in shaping child outcomes in the context of maternal postnatal depression. I use interdisciplinary methodology, including qualitative (epidemiological analyses of longitudinal data), developmental psychological (observations of parent-child interactions) and qualitative (in-depth interviews), to elucidate the impact of parental mental health on multidimensional facets of parenting and their individual contributions to child socio-emotional, behavioural and mental health outcomes.
