Biography

I am a graduate of Manchester Metropolitan University where I have worked full-time since 2018 as part of the Computing Education team, lecturing on both the PGCE Secondary and BA (Hons) Education course. Before joining MMU, I worked as a Head of Computing for over 12 years at a large Independent School in the North West of England. In 2003, I re-trained from a succesfull career in the telecommunications industry as a Secondary School Computing and IT teacher.

I am near completion of my Doctor in Education course where my work centres around inclusive education practices in computing education.

An exploration of unconscious bias within Secondary School Computing teacher education. 2016 - 2022

Aims:

●      To develop an understanding of unconscious bias in the Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Secondary Computing curriculum.

●      To deliver a revised PGCE programme to generate an awareness of unconscious bias.

●      To examine how pre-service teachers who have received the revised programme experience the new computing curriculum in the Secondary School classroom.

●      To develop recommendations for revising curriculum material to address unconscious bias for teaching computing for other ITE providers.
