    Award Documentation – Important information about your permanent address

    It is your responsibility to keep your permanent address up to date throughout the duration of your studies to prevent award documentation being posted to the incorrect postal address. The deadline for address changes for summer award certificates is 30 June. Certificates are not handed out at graduation, they are posted in September, so consider where you will be living at that time. If you gain an award at any other time of year, we will aim to process and post your certificate within 8 weeks of you receiving your final results.

    Once you have gained an award, your award documentation will be sent only to your permanent address on record. The permanent address can be any address you consider your permanent residence.  

    A term-time address is where you are living during the academic year whilst studying.  If your term-time and permanent address are the same, it is important to have this noted on your record.

    A permanent addressis where you live the rest of the year. It may be with family or where you are moving after Uni. We send your certificate to your permanent address on record with us. The permanent address can be any address you consider your permanent residence and that you will have access to after you have received your final marks.  

    If your award documents are sent to a student house you’ve moved out of, or an overseas address when you’re now permanently living in the UK, there may be a delay of several months until you can receive your documents. This could lead to delays with applications for visas, jobs or further study.

    How do I change my permanent address?

    Current students can update their address via the ‘Update Your Contact Details Only’ link at the bottom of the online enrolment page. Past students, please contact the Student Hub to update your permanent address.  

    UK students: Please can you state clearly your door number, street name, town/city and postcode.

    International students: Please can you state your full address including country and a PO box number if you have an international address.

    Award Documentation - Important information about your legal name

    The Awards certificate is a legal document. If the name on your certificate does not match your legal name on your passport it can create difficulties later in life with future study, visas and applications for jobs. We strongly recommend any middle names are included if they are displayed on your legal ID. Remember to include any apostrophes or ‘Mc’ or ‘Mac’ accurately. 

    You will have 1 year following your award date to make any name changes to award documentation. If you need to do so, you should contact awards@mmu.ac.uk with the relevant legal ID. After this time, name changes will no longer be accepted. 

    How do I change my name?

    Please contact Student Hub with a photo of your ID document and ask them to update your student record. 

    For Transgender students, we suggest that your legal name is printed on your certificate and transcript to avoid any future complications with job offers and visa requests. If you have changed your name in the student records system and require your legal name to be printed on your certificate and transcript, please contact personaldatachange@mmu.ac.uk

  • REPLACE YOUR AWARD CERTIFICATE OR ACADEMIC TRANSCRIPT

    To request a replacement certificate or transcript, you can contact us by email at replacementcertificate@mmu.ac.uk.

    It can take up to six weeks to produce and post your document(s), and there is a charge for this service outlined below. Please let us know in your email which replacement document(s) you would like to order.

    £15 for a replacement transcript.
    £45 for a replacement certificate. 
     

  • GET CERTIFIED COPIES OF YOUR CERTIFICATES AND TRANSCRIPTS

    We can certify photocopies of certificates and transcripts to confirm their authenticity. Please request this by email at awards@mmu.ac.uk with a copy of your certificate, transcript or both.

    We try to process these requests within 21 working days. In some cases, it may take longer to get documents from our secure archive.

  • REQUEST A VERIFICATION LETTER

    We can provide a letter detailing your dates of attendance and final result.

    If you attended the former Manchester Polytechnic, we include a statement explaining the change to our university status.

    These requests may take up to 21 working days  to process.

    Please send your request for a verification letter including your name, student ID and course title to awards@mmu.ac.uk.

  • VERIFICATION OF ATTENDANCE DATES AND AWARDS FOR THIRD PARTIES

    Manchester Metropolitan University uses the Higher Education Degree Datacheck (HEDD) online verification service for employers and agencies to verify our awards. This service is only for third parties and there is a charge.

    The online candidate verification service allows you to register and check applicants’ data, such as name, date of birth, institution, year of graduation or qualification classification.

    To make your enquiry you should:

    •    register with HEDD
    •    select ‘Manchester Metropolitan University’ from the list of UK higher education institutions
    •    choose the option to ‘verify a degree award’
    •    upload a consent form
    •    provide the applicant’s:
        o    full name at the time of studying
        o    date of birth
        o    full course title
        o    classification or result
        o    year of graduation
    •    request the dates of attendance or study, if applicable

    We recommend that you ask applicants to provide the data listed above and show you their degree certificates, which you can use for your verification enquiry.

  • UPDATING YOUR NAME ON AWARD DOCUMENTS

    Name changes can be requested within 12 months of your award documents being sent to you by emailing awards@mmu.ac.uk along with a copy of your legal ID which shows the name you wish to be displayed on your award.
