ABOUT MY CAREER

Manchester Met was my local university and had a focused and innovative bioscience centre which aligned with my own interests and career motives.

I was impressed by the RISE programme which helped me bolster my learning and development, whilst also satisfying my interests outside of my principal area of study. I also took advantage of other opportunities such as undertaking a supplementary language module during my final year of BSc.

Since graduating, I am a Trainee Cardiac Physiologist on the NSHCS Scientist Training Programme. I was able to land this role following both BSc and MSc level study in Human Physiology, extensive extracurricular work pertaining to what the programme was hiring for and relevant clinical experience which gave me insight into the role.

As a trainee cardiac physiologist, my main role is to provide and support cardiac diagnostic services with an emphasis on my own personal and professional development through the NSHCS curriculum and further MSc study in clinical science at Newcastle University. I also ensure that I maintain CPD standards for myself by scheduling time where I can learn and develop areas outside of cardiac science for which I hold interest (there are many!).

MY TOP TIP FOR STUDENTS IS

Put yourself out there into different industries until you find a role you are willing to do anything it takes to succeed, and then do it.
