ABOUT MY CAREER
As an international student seeking rigorous actor training, I researched the best Drama Schools in the world - many of which are in the UK. I then auditioned for schools in the UK, earning a place at the Manchester School of Theatre.
My first job offer in my field was a small role in the feature film ‘Sumotherhood’, written and directed by Adam Deacon. My agent submitted me for the project, and I got an offer after auditioning.
As an actor, I am responsible for telling a story - showing up to rehearsals prepared and doing my part to tell the wider story.
The skills I gained at Manchester Met that I have used the most in my career includes manipulating the voice and body to tell a story. The other skill I learned is working effectively in an ensemble or team. Listening to the team in rehearsals or on set is one of the most important skills to have as an actor as well as remaining open and adaptable to respond to the whole team. We also collaborated with the writers programme, which helped us develop our cold reading skills.
I continue to develop my craft by partaking in workshops and classes, creating work and practicing my craft with fellow graduates from my year.
MY TOP TIP FOR STUDENTS IS
Come into an audition with a strong and clear choice, while always remaining malleable and open to receive direction. Be ready to toss your idea in the bin and take something else on. “Come from somewhere but go anywhere,” an acting tutor once said to me.
