About my career

My first role was as a Marketing Assistant for ISAWITFIRST which is the parent brand for ISAWITFIRST.com, KOI Footwear and Pink Clove. I found out about the role through a friend, who I met at Manchester Met, who told me about an opportunity that had come up within the business. I sent over my CV, had a face-to-face interview followed by some tasks and I managed to secure the role a few days later!

My current role comes with a wide range of responsibilities. The first is managing the day-to-day maintenance of the website and ensuring all relevant product is uploaded correctly and on time for customers to purchase. I also look after the visual merchandising of the website, any promotions and offers that are live, CRM activity, such as email marketing, sales reporting and much more!

I think the biggest skill I have taken from Manchester Met is the ability to analyse absolutely everything. It’s a vital skill in the marketing/e-commerce industry as you always aim to get things exactly right. You need to know what the customer wants and make it as easy for them to shop which is based on a lot of analytical data which then forms the decisions made as a business.

I often looked on the Manchester Met careers page and happened to secure a part-time role as a digital marketing assistant during my third year at Manchester Met! I had a meeting with one of the lovely ladies from the team who helped me with my CV and gave it that boost it needed to stand out from the competition.

My top tip for students is

Build up a strong LinkedIn profile! Our tutors couldn’t tell us enough about the amazing opportunities that come with LinkedIn and they were right! I was contacted on LinkedIn for the role I’m in now and I do get a few messages every month from businesses/recruiters who reach out with opportunities! Keep on top of your profile and engage with connections and posts on a weekly basis to really get the best out of the platform.

I’m inspired by

The many, many successful, independent businesswomen there are in the UK and across the globe!

What I loved about Manchester Met

I loved the creative freedom of my course at Manchester Met and appreciated all of the opportunities to connect with not only my fellow students but also my tutors. It’s great to keep in touch with them all on platforms like LinkedIn! It’s amazing to see everyone’s successes.
