About me

About my career

After completing my bachelor’s in mechanical engineering, I chose to combine my engineering expertise with masters in Management, aiming to develop my knowledge in the domains of business and management studies. The Manchester Metropolitan University Business School has an outstanding academic reputation. I am also strictly attached to the city of Manchester and wanted to have the opportunity to live in it and I enjoyably did!

Days after officially completing the masters programme, I received several offers at the same time through LinkedIn. Platforms such as LinkedIn and Bark are a great way to reach employers from all around the world. The offers were not confined only to engineering roles, but even financial opportunities were offered.

I am a Project Engineer at Wafra Real Estate Company. The primary responsibility of the Project Management Department is to offer turnkey solutions, from planning, designing, and through execution. The department’s activities complement the company’s plans and ambitions through development, design and construction. MSc Management at Manchester Met offers a Project Management optional module, which I really recommend for those who wish to start a career in such a field.

Teamwork and time management were the most noticed skills that have rapidly developed at Man Met. Those skills are very much needed in every single career.

During my masters and while heading back to Kuwait for the holidays, I went through an intense work placement as a part of the programme. It was done at Gulf Bank of Kuwait, which offered a rotation throughout its eight departments. The aim was to gain general knowledge and be able to fully digest the structure of the bank. This certainly formed added value to my resume!

My top tip for students is

Follow what you are passionate about, plus try to benefit from the advice of the experienced people you will meet and who care about your success.

I was an active member in AlRayah, a student group that annually runs for the elections of the National Union of Kuwaiti Students in the UK. The group organises different activities both in UK and back in Kuwait. A large variety of activities are held, mainly social, academic and entertainment occasions. I would recommend all students participate in any volunteering groups and student societies to develop their social and teamwork skills.

I’m inspired by

I was and am still inspired by Dr. Samia Hoque, who was my dissertation supervisor. She was an exceptional supervisor who did not hesitate to provide all support and guidance during the long months of work. I want to extend my sincere thanks for all her efforts!

What I loved about my time at Manchester Met

The academic structure at Manchester Met is very straightforward and all staff members were really helpful and professionally mannered.
