"The careers service at MMU provided great advice prior to my assessment day"
About my career

After graduating, I secured a place on a Software Testing training program with FDM Group. MMU offered me a programme that combined Business as well as Technology – giving me an insight into process as well as problem solving, which, having been placed with the Ministry of Justice as a client of FDM, has been vital experience. The careers service at MMU also provided great advice prior to my assessment day. The understanding I gained from my MMU experience links to my role now, where I help deliver technology to benefit the business.

A part of my role over the past year has involved delivering presentations to people and developing the skills sets of others, so I would consider presentation and communication skills as some of the core attributes I learnt at MMU. I have since taken my ISTQB Foundation Certificate in Software Testing. The additional training I have undertaken has provided me with a strong foundation in Software Testing.

My top tip for students is…

I think students should strive to do a placement as it paints the picture of what to expect upon graduation, and it can provide you with invaluable real-life experiences and examples that you can talk about in job interviews!

As well as having the correct skills for the role, I think that it is very important to build professional relationships and networks with colleagues, suppliers and customers (the end users).  I also think it is important to be enthusiastic about what you want to do, which will naturally show a willingness to learn and develop.

I’m inspired by…

I was inspired by a number of academic staff, as well as fellow students and friends, due to their positivity. I think it is always possible to find someone to aspire to if you look hard enough.

Why I love Manchester Met

The new Business School offered me numerous facilities to help with my studies such as designated zones for group or individual study, new workstations and a great working environment. I also found the use of online books and journals invaluable.
