"The one-year placement that was required on my course was hugely beneficial"
About my career

Studying International Fashion Marketing at the University gave me the practical skills I use every day in industry. The one-year placement that was required on my course was hugely beneficial. A year in full time employment prepares you for work after you graduate. It also gave me the opportunity to compare two different disciplines within the industry (fashion marketing and fashion merchandising) which ultimately allowed me to make a calculated decision as to my future career choices. My placement was for Charles Clinkard independent shoe retailers, and after my placement I was offered a full time graduate role.

My top tip for students is…

Studying at Manchester Metropolitan University will also develop your skills. I developed my organisational, team working and time management skills thanks to the different modules and coursework I studied for my BSc (Hons).

I’m inspired by…

I found that having lecturers who had personally worked in the industry an inspiration as they could give first hand advice and share their experiences in a variety of industries. Learning from their experiences reassured me that I wanted to pursue a career in fashion marketing. I would particularly like to thank Debra Norman who was my Dissertation tutor as she always gave constructive feedback and advice as well as being available to help one on one despite being very busy herself.

Why I love Manchester Met

I loved my time at the University because it gave me the independence and confidence to work in the industry I love: without it, I would not have had the knowledge or experience get into this industry.
