"Make an effort to meet people in all sorts of spheres of life."
About my career

I am an Investment Director at Rathbones, running global portfolios of stocks and shares for wealthy individuals, families, trusts and charities. I am also Deputy Head of the company’s main office in London.  I was also elected as an Alderman of the City of London in 2018 and help the Lord Mayor in promoting UK financial and professional services in the UK and globally.

What was your first job after graduating and how did you get that role?

My first job after graduating was as an Army Officer. I applied for officer selection and training, and was accepted. I wanted to enjoy some time as a young man running around and seeing the world before settling down. The army also sponsored me through my degree.

My top tip for students is...

Be curious, explore ideas, make an effort to meet people in all sorts of spheres of life and build broad networks.

Why I love Manchester Met

Because I studied a broadly based degree where I gained skills I have needed in my career. And making friends for life!
