About my career

I completed my full time certificate in Youth and Community work at Manchester Polytechnic in 1989 and returned to MMU in 2000 to do my BA Hons in Youth and Community work.

In my career I have worked in various roles including Principal Programme Manager for Young Peoples’ Health at Manchester PCT, Deputy Head of Service at Halton Youth Service and Operational Director at The Proud Trust.

In 2012 I was awarded a MBE for my work with LGBT young people. I have worked with LGBT+ young people for most of my working life and find this work exceptionally rewarding.

My top tip for students is…

Keep the Youth Work Values at the heart of what you do, no matter where you work.

I’m inspired by…

Women, we break the sterotypes, we fight the sexism, we are strong and bold.

Why I love Manchester Met

In some quarters of this institution there are people who continue the fight for liberation.
