About our research

Manchester Met’s engineering research is carried out in the Advanced Materials and Surface Engineering research centre and either the Department of Engineering or the Department of Natural Sciences.

We carry out mainly applied research — using our expertise to develop better materials and technologies that improve people’s lives.

Applications of our research include improving the design and control of machines and processes, developing assistive technology in healthcare, the production and characterisation of novel materials, and the modification of surfaces for a wide range of industrial applications.
