Join artist Lynn Setterington and help celebrate International Women's Day with the launch of our community focused banner.

A wide ranging stich-based initiative which brings something different to the representation of women.

Women of all ages and backgrounds have worked together to create a banner that celebrates the women's role within the Suffrage movement and relating to International Women's Day.

Radical Locks is a stitch-based initiative celebrating the women of Tameside. This diaphanous hand-sewn textile is a visual and tactile marker of identity, one that is both inclusive and unexpected. By entrapping wisps of hair within the cloth, the project pays homage to diversity of women in the borough today who are literally and metaphorically intertwined within the tactile outcome. The exquisite cloth highlights too in its use of text the work of a local, overlooked suffragette, Hannah Mitchell.

Setterington is Senior Lecturer in Textiles in Practice at Manchester School of Art. SHe is a British textile artist and academic particularly known for her hand stitched textiles and collaborative arts initiatives. Her work is held in many collections including the V&A Museum, Terrance Higgins Trust, the Embroiderers Guild and Denver Museum of Art.
