In the summer of 1977, Granada Television broadcast a lively late night all-female panel show, entitled Pandora’s Box. Presented by Joan Bakewell and featuring an early career Victoria Wood – who performed a song at the end of each programme – the series offered a space for women from different backgrounds and professions to discuss frankly their experiences of work, parenting, and the pressures of appearance. For this event, two of the episodes on Work and Dress will be screened followed by a panel discussion.

Curated for Celebrating Women in Global Cinema by Isabel Taube, Researcher in History at Manchester Metropolitan University.

The discussion will be chaired by Dr Katie Milestone, Senior Lecturer in Sociology at Manchester Metropolitan University, with speakers Jackie Hagan, DJ Paulette Constable and Kate O'Donnell.
