-------The Clash Book Launch with Live Music ------

Join us for a Night of Treason at the Manchester Book launch of  Working for the Clampdown: The Clash, the dawn of neoliberalism and the political promise of punk. Edited by Colin Coulter (National University of Ireland, Maynooth).

An evening featuring some of Manchester's finest musical guests:

  • Sam Smith with Dewi and Tim of The Parish Church Fire
  • Still Forever, the solo project of producer Amy Griffiths.
  • DJ Stephen Doyle (Salford City Radio / Strummercamp)
  • And yes, there will be books aplenty...

MASS Manchester are delighted to be able to help facilitate this event. Our very own Pete Dale has a chapter in the book too "What if Keith Levene had never left The Clash? Punk and the politics of novelty".

Published by Manchester University Press: "This volume brings together a range of writers from different academic disciplines and different locations to provide an engaging and accessible critical exploration of one of the most revered and reviled bands in the history of popular music. The essays collated here locate The Clash in their own explosive cultural moment of punk's year zero and examine how the group speaks from beyond the grave to the uncanny parallels of other moments of social and political crisis." Authors include Jason Toynbee and Caroline Coon, amongst others.
