Thursday 24th October sees the launch of AMBIT’s latest issue, AMBIT 238 hosted by Manchester Writing School at Manchester Metropolitan University.

AMBIT 1959-2019 exhibition displays all of the previous issues of AMBIT magazine. AMBIT has been the window into the artistic cutting edge for over 6 decades, featuring works by some of the last century’s leading artists and illustrators including David Hockney, Ralph Steadman, Edward Paolozzi, Mike Foreman, Peter Blake, Helen Chadwick, Ron Sandford, Paula Rego, Posy Simmons and Chris Pig.

AMBIT 238 focuses on new artists from Greater Manchester. Ambit art editor, Olivia Bax, invited previous Manchester School of Art student and artist Hannah Dargavel-Leafe to co-edit the issue with her. This special Mancunian edition features an interview with Claire Dorsett; an 'Ambit Exclusive' artwork from Rowland Hill as well as art from Tulani Hlalo, Noel Clueit, John Powell-Jones, Ellie Brennan, Caitin Akers, Jo McGonigal and Hannah Dargavel-Leafe. There will be illustrations from Amy Tibbles and Laurie Avon illustrating prose selected for Ambit 238.

Readers in the evening will include: Briony Bax, Liz Berry (who will be presenting the three winners of the 2019 AMBIT Poetry Prize) Jade Cuttle, Maryam Hessavi and Yvonne Reddick.

Since its founding in 1959, AMBIT has fused visual art and literature, and has been a must on the magazine racks of the UK's major galleries and museums. Inside the magazine, poetry, art and short stories combine to earn AMBIT the reputation of a modern classic, and the covers have themselves become nothing short of timeless. Join the present AMBIT team, including Briony Bax, Olivia Bax, Hannah Dargavel-Leafe, visiting teaching fellow at Manchester Met André Naffis-Sahely and Jade Cuttle, for the launch of AMBIT 238 on Thursday 24th October 24th, see the Ambit exhibition and hear some of AMBIT’s critically acclaimed contributors.

André Naffis-Sahely is a Visiting Teaching Fellow at the Manchester Writing School at Manchester Met. He is a poet, critic and translator. You can read his full biography here.
