The Centre for Place Writing at Manchester Met is delighted to announce the leading cultural geographer and poet, Professor Tim Cresswell (Ogilvie Chair in Geography, University of Edinburgh), as its first ever Visiting Professor. To mark Tim’s appointment, we will be holding a special free event to celebrate the launch of his latest book: Maxwell Street: Writing and Thinking Place (University of Chicago Press, 2019).

Three researchers from Manchester Met – Luca Csepely-Knorr (Architecture), James Robinson (Human Geography), and Jean Sprackland (Creative Writing) – will draw upon their disciplinary backgrounds to offer readings of Maxwell Street: an account of Chicago’s iconic market area; and an innovative experiment in the writing of place. In addition, Tim himself will reflect on Maxwell Street’s position in the ongoing evolution of his own critical and creative practice. The event will be chaired by David Cooper (Co-Director of the Centre for Place Writing).

There will be a drinks reception before the event to celebrate Tim’s appointment as Visiting Professor.
