To celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the Bauhaus in Germany, Year one undergraduate architecture students have prepared an exhibition of modern houses during their Humanities studies. The exhibition unites models and drawings of the iconic Bauhaus’ Master’s houses in Dessau, Germany, designed by Walter Gropius with models of houses in London designed by architects associated with the Bauhaus School or the British Modern Architectural Research Group, (MARS) Group, who were connected to Congrès internationaux d’architecture moderne (CIAM). Collectively they demonstrate the progression of architectural style through an understanding of modern materials and construction techniques. The exhibition will highlight the international links between the groups and the designers’ individual contributions to the evolution of modernism in architecture. The exhibition will open at The Modernist Society’s Manchester headquarters in January 2020, it is free to visit is open to the public.
