Beyond Babel Film Festival: El futuro perfecto

Xioabin reunites in Argentina with her family after some time apart. Wanting to learn Spanish, she works in a grocery store to pay for lessons, which she keeps a secret. As her language skills evolve, she starts dating Vijay, an Indian customer. When she learns the form of possibility, which is the “perfect future tense” or “conditional”, she starts to ponder what would happen if she were to tell her parents about Vijay.

El futuro perfecto is a "quiet, modestly-scaled character study" praised by the New York Times for its depiction "of the immigration experience through the process of mastering a language, and gaining the confidence that comes with it".

This screening is part of the Beyond Babel Film Festival, which will also feature screenings of English Vinglish and Né quelque part.
