“Would you want to live forever? In this talk I shall ask whether the prospect of a never-ending life, of broadly the same kind as our current life, would be an attractive one or a repugnant one. I shall also argue that there are certain tricks that we can play with infinity that enable to us address the letter of this question, but not its spirit.”

Professor Adrian Moore is Professor of Philosophy at the University of Oxford, where he is also a Tutorial Fellow at St Hugh’s College. His publications include The Infinite; Points of View; Noble in Reason, Infinite in Faculty: Themes and Variations in Kant’s Moral and Religious Philosophy; and The Evolution of Modern Metaphysics: Making Sense of Things. Most recently he produced an original BBC Radio 4 Series ‘A History of the Infinite’.

Adrian recently developed a BBC Radio 4 series entitled: ‘A History of the Infinite’. Adrian’s talk will develop many of the ideas mentioned in this series. You can listen to the series ahead of the lecture on iPlayer here.
