The Language Mentor Project is an initiative by Route into Languages to encourage young people to take up a language.
Mentors will work with Year 11 pupils to help inspire them to study a language at A-Level. The project will start in October and finish in December/January. Mentors will recieve a £200 Amazon voucher upon completion of the project.
The project will take place over 3 parts and there will be a 90 minute training session on October 2nd. The poject is open to all 2nd year and 4th year Language students.
Part 1-In School Intervention
Working in pairs students will deliver two pre-made 40 minute workshops in two local schools (all transport will be covered). The first workshop will be a Why Study Talk whilst the second workshop will be a Translation task. This will take place in October and we will aim to work around your availability.
Part 2-On Campus Raising Aspirations Event
On the afternoon of November 20th, students will support an on-campus event to encourage language learning. Sessions will mostly be academic-led with ambassadors supporting however ambassadors will deliver a campus tour in the target language.
For the final part of the project, students will mentor select pupils on a 1 to 2 basis (one ambassador to two pupils) to further encourage language learning. There will be approximately 4-6 hours of mentoring in total. This will mostly take place over December/January and we will aim to meet your availability.
