About our research

About our research

Our multidisciplinary research theme focuses on microorganisms and their role in health and disease, hospital transmissions and food contamination.

Our research covers:

  • the human microbiome in health and disease

  • pathogen genetics and epidemiology

  • antimicrobial resistance and novel antimicrobial agents

  • anti-adhesive, antimicrobial and biomimetic surfaces and coatings

  • detection and characterisation of conditioning films and biochemical molecules at the cell surface interface

  • the effectiveness of cleaning methods, hygienic status of food contact surfaces and biofilm characterisation and eradication

  • oral health and its systemic link

  • human infections associated with biofilm formation - chronic wounds, catheter infections and dental plaques

  • host-parasite interactions: whipworm, filarial nematodes and schistosomiasis
