Business School strikes gold

Partnership with McCann Manchester

EXPERTISE from MMU Business School has guided the largest marketing communications agency in the North to a Gold Award.

McCann Manchester, the largest marketing communications agency outside London, scooped Gold for its continuous professional development programme from the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA).

McCanns was cited in particular for its efforts to upskill staff at a time when economic circumstances led most companies to cut back on staff development.

Staff at McCann’s Prestbury base are offered a digital marketing Certificate in Postgraduate Education with lectures from Manchester Metropolitan University on planning, PR, account management and digital.

Training innovations

The one-year course includes a series of assignments both through group work and individual projects.

Patrick Mills, Director of Professional Development at the IPA, said: "McCann Manchester has demonstrated real commitment to the principles that underpin IPA accreditation and has made a real effort to understand the contribution they make to business and people performance.

"The number of training innovations undertaken, such as the Postgraduate Certificate, developed in conjunction with Manchester Metropolitan University, is truly impressive."

Sue Little, Chief Executive Officer at McCann Manchester said: "We are thrilled to be recognised for our achievements in professional development and strongly believe staff should have the option to further their education whilst in full time work.

"We have a great partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University both in terms of study progression and work experience placements and we look forward to working together in the future."

Great product

David Edmundson-Bird, Director of Executive Programmes at MMUBS said: "We are delighted to contribute to the success of McCann. We produced a great product for them which gives their staff up-to-the-minute knowledge and a qualification accredited by a leading university."
