Degree Apprenticeship showcased at open evening

More events planned for interested students

PUPILS flocked to Manchester Metropolitan University to learn more about the new Degree Apprenticeship.

School and college leavers attended an open evening where the Degree Apprenticeship in Digital Technology Solutions was showcased.

"Young people can still have the university experience but earn at the same time with the digital technology degree apprenticeship," said Liz Gorb, MMU Programme Director.

"This was the first of a series of open evenings to give young people an opportunity to meet employers and current apprentices on other advanced programmes, gain careers advice, discover more about university life and about the apprenticeship opportunities starting this September."

Earn while you learn

MMU is one of eight universities selected nationally to deliver the new Degree Apprenticeship in Technology Solutions, which has been developed by employers and the Tech Partnership. The government is providing two thirds of the funding for training the degree apprentices and students earn while they learn.

The core content of the degree includes technological support, software development, database management, security and business organisation but the course is also highly flexible to employer demands - whatever the size or sector of the organisation.

The MMU degree apprenticeship, launching September 2015, is going to be delivered in partnership with leading companies, including Barclays Bank, AstraZeneca, Thales, Network Rail, Apadmi, and Bright Future Software.

John Peachey, Head of Software for Thales UK, said: "We are very excited to be working with MMU and the Tech Partnership to establish the Degree Apprenticeship in Digital and Technology Solutions.

Future events

“This will provide a unique opportunity for the new generation of Software Engineers to develop the academic and hands on technical and personal skills to be a key member of the Thales UK Software Development team."

Further open evenings for prospective degree apprentices are planned for 12 May, 30 June and 18 August. For further details: or call Laura Holohan on 0161 247 6043.
