State-of-the-art for dental technology

DENTAL technology at MMU now boasts the largest and most modern facilities in the UK.

New laboratories and teaching spaces were launched today marking 60 years of dental technology in at MMU where the first degree in the discipline began in 1993.

The state-of-the-art facilities, part of the £45 million John Dalton Science and Engineering Faculty refurbishment, were opened by the Vice-Chancellor Professor John Brooks accompanied by the president of the General Dental Council Hew Mathewson.

Dental Technology courses are offered by the School of Biology, Chemistry and Health Sciences and produce health care professionals who make prostheses and appliances that enable people to eat, speak and smile again.

Head of Dental Technology Studies, Chris Maryan, said: "This is now the largest facility for dental technology in the UK, possibly Europe. It is excellent news for staff, researchers and students."

All courses are approved by the General Dental Council.
