I act as an expert reviewer for journals such as New Political Economy, Policy and Politics, British Journal of Politics and International Relations, and Comparative European Politics, and publishers such as Manchester University Press and Polity. I am also an ESRC commissioning panel member.

I am on the advisory board of the Intergenerational Foundation, and am an Associate Fellow at the International Longevity Centre.
Government and industry links
The Industrial Strategy Commission worked closely with the UK government, the opposition and a range of business stakeholders.
I have provided oral evidence to the UK parliament on several occasions.
Impact and influence on policy
The Industrial Strategy Commission helped to shape the UK government's industrial strategy white paper (2017), and more generally I am taking forward the Commission's work by engaging with local authorities and the opposition.
I have worked extensively with policy-makers and parliamentarians on all aspects of my research agenda since returning to academia in 2013. My research has been cited in public by then Prime Minister David Cameron, and in parliament by the leader of the opposition.
