Senior Lecturer Information Systems Strategy
I have been teaching at universities for over 30 years, first as a visiting lecturer at Birkbeck and more recently as a member of the Business Technology team here at MMU. Prior to joining MMU I ran my own consulting business for over 19 years and prior to that held a number of senior positions in industry. I use this knowledge and experience to bring reality and experience into my teaching.

I teach because I LOVE it and I want to make a difference. It’s a little cliche, but it’s true. I like to combine my knowledge and experience of business to enable students to get a deeper insight beyond the textbooks.
There’s no greater reward than when you see the ‘penny drop’ and a student begins to better understand a topic or theory.
I was the first academic at Manchester Met to complete the Bronze level of the iDEA programme and also the first academic and one of the first eight globally to complete the Silver level of the iDEA programme.
I founded and Chaired TenCORE User Group (a group dedicated to excellence in the development of Computer Based Training) and later merged this with The Association for Computer Based Training which I also Chaired. Renamed the E-Learning Network, this organisation has recently celebrated its 35th anniversary. I am an honorary lifetime member of the organisation in recognition of my work.
I also spearheaded the use of Computer Based Training within the building society sector and instigated and led a number of joint projects across the finance industry – the first of their kind – where finance organisations collaborated in the production (and financing) of key learning materials.
I pioneered the use of Admissible Probability Measures for competence testing within the finance industry and was awarded a National Training Award in recognition of the effectiveness and results gained through the use of technology-based training.
I helped secure a KTP to the value of £175k and am providing business consultancy to the delivery team.

During this time I ran a consultancy with clients including Sellafield Ltd, EDF Energy, BT, Thresher Group, Thomson Scientific, Centrica, Blackpool Borough Council, Business Link and Ikea. I also ran an online business selling vintage industrial items such as lamps, furniture and signs.

I taught on a number of Post Graduate Digital Media programmes specialising in Developing Businesses, Finances and Project Management.
Development Director - Academee (now part of Accenture)
I was responsible for the development and support of all e-learning materials and ran sub-departments including Learning Architects, Content Developers, Technical Developers and E-coaches. This was in the early(ish) days of the commercial internet and we were designing and developing high-end management and leadership courses.
