Entry with advanced standing

Depending on your current qualifications and experience, you may be able to study a masters course with ‘advanced standing’.

Entry with 'advanced standing' means that you will receive exemptions against the total credits required for your chosen qualification.

A standard masters course is 180 credits. With advanced standing, you may only need to study 60 or 90 credits, depending on your level of experience and your chosen course.

MSc Accounting and Finance (Advanced Standing)

Professional Qualification Exemption Units to achieve MSc
You must have a professional accounting qualification from a recognised accounting profession as part of The International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) eg. ACCA, ICAN, ICASL. 90 credits

MSc Financial Planning and Business Management

Professional Qualification Exemption Units to achieve MSc
You must have gained the Chartered Financial Planner qualification or equivalent. 60 credits
  • Governance, Risk and Control (15 credits)
  • Financial Technologies (15 credits)
  • Academic and Professional Development (30 credits)
  • Dissertation in Financial Planning and Business Management (60 credits)
You must have gained Fellowship of the Personal Finance Society of Equivalent. 90 credits

MSc Strategic Business Management (CIMA)

Professional Qualification Exemption Units to achieve MSc
You must be an active CIMA member and have completed all levels of CIMA examination, or have transferred to CIMA qualification via the CIMA Management Gateway. 60 credits

  • Dissertation in Strategic Business Management
    (60 credits)
You must be an active CIMA member and have completed the CIMA qualification. Three years professional experience is also required for this route. 90 credits

MSc Place Management and Leadership

Professional Qualification Exemption Units to achieve MSc
Associate Member of the Institute of Place Management (IPM), with a degree in a relevant area.

Dependent on your educational qualifications and relevant professional experience.

Apply for the full MSc/PgDip/PgCert and negotiate with Course Leader the level of Approved Prior Learning (APEL)* you could receive on a case by case basis.

For full MSc:

Minimum 90 credits 

Member of the (IPM) without a degree, but with at least 5 years relevant experience.

Dependent on your educational qualifications and relevant professional experience.

Apply for full MSc/PgDip/PgCert and negotiate with Course Leader level of APEL* on a case by case basis.

For full MSc:

Minimum 90 credits 

Member of the IPM, with a degree in a relevant area and at least 3 years relevant experience.

Up to 60 credits

Apply through Direct Admissions, mark ‘Advanced Standing’

For full MSc:

  • Taught units
    (30 credits)
  • Place Intelligence and Forecasting (15 credits)
  • Research Methods
    (15 credits)
  • Dissertation
    (60 credits)
Member of the IPM, with a degree and at least 6 years relevant experience, and can demonstrate significant impact on place management/policy.

Up to 90 credits

For full MSc:

  • Place Intelligence and Forecasting (15 credits)
  • Research Methods
    (15 credits)
  • Dissertation
    (60 credits)
Fellow of the IPM, with a degree and at least 6 years relevant experience, and have had significant impact on place management/policy.

Up to 90 credits

For full MSc:

  • Dissertation

Membership of other professional bodies with which IPM has a Memorandum of Understanding (Currently the Landscape Institute).
