Grace Gomo

I want to become a chartered accountant and this course allows you to complete all of the professional papers in just a year, which is really fast

After completing her high school education in Zimbabwe, Grace relocated to Manchester to undertake the BA (Hons) Accounting & Finance programme at Manchester Metropolitan University from which she graduated with First Class Honours.

Deciding to progress to the ACCA full-time programme was an easy decision for Grace. “I want to become a chartered accountant and this course allows you to complete all of the professional papers in just a year, which is really fast”.

“The class sizes are quite small which means they are very interactive. The tutors all have industry and teaching experience, which means they are able to explain complex concepts in a way that is easy to understand even without industry experience. They know which skills the industry expects graduates to have and help us to acquire them.”

“It’s a lot of hard work but it’s really rewarding. We have already sat two papers and I received the highest grades in my group, which was a personal highlight for me!”

Grace has also taken advantage of the Careers and Employability Service during her time at Manchester Metropolitan University. “They helped me to update my CV and LinkedIn profile and gave me tips on how to make it look more professional.”

During Employability Week, Grace attended a ‘Meet the Employers’ event which offers students the opportunity to meet a number of employers and discuss graduate opportunities and placements.

“It was a really good chance to meet employers face-to-face and to find out more about the opportunities that are out there for graduates. I took along copies of my CV and managed to secure a paid placement at the NHS’s Finance department in Manchester which I’m really excited to start later in the year.

There are lots of opportunities to take part in extracurricular activities at Manchester Met. During my time here, I have been a peer mentor and won the Best Student Rep Award. I also work as a student ambassador, which means I show prospective students and their parents around at Open Days and tell them about studying here. It has really helped me to build up my confidence and the extra money comes in handy when you’re a student!

Manchester Met really helps you to gain the extra skills and experience you need to succeed after graduation. I would definitely recommend this programme to anybody who is looking for an accelerated route into chartered accounting.”

The ACCA (full-time) programme covers the professional stage papers. It provides an opportunity to study for an internationally recognised professional qualification at Manchester Metropolitan University’s Business School facility located in the centre of Manchester.
