AECOM’s Manchester based Multidisciplinary (Resources & Industry) Team approached Manchester Met as they were looking to recruit two graduate Junior Project Managers. This was a new initiative from AECOM and so they were unsure how to identify the right candidates but needed a quick turnaround.
Our team met with AECOM to discuss recent projects, the focus of these roles and what qualities they would need. We discovered that a construction background or knowledge was not essential, widening our search to students with an interest in project management in construction.
The team advertised the roles using our bespoke recruitment software which allowed us to target and attract candidates. As well as using bespoke in-house systems, we advertised on external platforms to attract suitable recent graduate on behalf of AECOM. We identified suitable candidates and screened their CVs before passing them onto AECOM, saving them time and highlighting the quality of our students and service.
After providing AECOM with CVs, three candidates were interviewed and two were recruited into the advertised roles. These graduates both came from the Business School, proving that a wider range of applicants could be suitable.
Building on this success, the team were able to connect AECOM with other teams across the University to involve them in additional recruitment activities such as Careers fairs and networking events.

Barclays were looking to increase engagement with universities and hoped to recruit 10 students into part time roles within their ISA team.
Barclays invited universities from the local area to an open afternoon with their ISA team to discuss 10 potential student vacancies. The ISA team were open to any degree subject, but wanted candidates who were analytical, adaptable and who could work under pressure.
TALENTmatch work in close collaboration with other departments across the University and were able to promote the job via key contacts in the Business, Maths & Computing schools. Email and social media campaigns also provided promotion. After three days, the TALENTmatch team received over 50 applications, so it was decided to close the deadline after one week instead of two weeks as originally planned.
In total, we received 85 applications. After screening, 59 CV and cover letters were sent to Barclays. Barclays then invited 28 of those 59 students to interview.
Of the ten positions available, nine Manchester Met students were recruited and began their new roles in February 2017.

Handelsbanken were looking to recruit three part time staff to start as soon as possible in their new regional head office based at Manchester Airport.
TALENTmatch work in close collaboration with other departments across the University and Handelsbanken were referred to the team via the Business School Faculty Enterprise Manager. We were able to offer screening of CVs and candidates, interview support and had exclusive access to their ideal candidates who needed excellent telephony and customer service skills and were looking for part-time work in Manchester.
TALENTmatch targeted students via tailored emails and via academic tutors. As a result, we received over 60 applications and 20 students were then interviewed. We arranged all interviews using our industry leading recruitment software, including second interviews with a member of HR to fit in line with Handelsbanken’s recruitment procedures.
Handelsbanken were keen to recruit a student who had already accepted a role with another organisation. We re-opened applications and carried out a second round of promotion and recruitment to find suitable candidates.
As a result, Handelsbanken employed three Manchester Met students.
We were able to provide an easy and reliable service to Handelsbanken through two rounds of recruitment and interviews. Due to the calibre of our candidates, Handelsbanken have continued to work with us and will be using our services in the future to recruit for part-time roles.
