Gillian is Head of Education for Cheshire. In this role she is responsible for all aspects of the educational portfolio of the Faculty, relating to the curriculum, student engagement, student experience, student outcomes, pedagogy, partnerships, delivery and innovation. She is currently leading on a cross-faculty theme focused on personal tutoring.
Gillian is a Psychology graduate of Manchester University, where she also completed an MSc. She later obtained a PhD from the University of Kent Canterbury. She has worked at the University of Kent Canterbury, Leeds Beckett University and the University of Bradford. She was the Head of the Psychology Department at the University of Bradford before becoming Programme Leader and later Acting Head of Department at Manchester Metropolitan University where her leadership contributed to a significant growth in student satisfaction and recruitment.
Gillian's pedagogical research has focused on the use of teams in teaching delivery and assessment in higher education and student engagement in higher education. She was the named Research Fellow on two ESRC funded projects within the Economic and Social Research Council Future of Work Programme. This work is linked to her research into work life balance for people with and without caring responsibilities.
