Senior Lecturer in Cyber Security and Digital Foreniscs.
I deliver undergraduate, postgraduate and degree level apprenticeships units at MMU. I have a passion for teaching applied Cyber Security topics, and providing students with the opportunity to work first hand on relevant real world technical challenges.
I have a great passion for open source software, and deliver my courses using industry standard open source tools. I encourage my students to develop their own software, to enable them to develop a deeper appreciation for the problem they are working on.
My primary research interest is the application of signature detection schemes to emerging computing environments. For example signature detection in Cloud systems, to assist in the identification of extremist material. I also enjoy researching the security and privacy challenges around emerging technology, for example the presence metadata broadcast by Internet of things devices.
Research Interests
Teaching
To share a knowledge and understanding of emerging technologies and how they influence the world around us.
A mixture of lectures and lab sessions, with a large emphasis of the application of practical skills. All labs are taught using Linux and Open Source software.
Relevant real world news articles are included in my classes, with the goal of explaining the underlying technological, social, and political issues around cyber security and forensics.
Each term I deliver a lecture on my current research interest, to introduce emerging topics and research areas that you may find interesting.
