During 2007 to 2009, Dr Xin Shi was working as a postdoc in the direction of evidence-based medicine in the medical school of the University of Sheffield, UK. Meanwhile, he worked as a research assistant in social statistics at the University of Manchester. He was awarded as Chartered Statistician (CStat) by the Royal Statistical Society in the UK.

His main research interest lies in the field of statistical modelling in business and social science for decision-making, health prevention management in human beings and sports. Generalised Linear Model (GLM) has been widely developed and applied to medical data, such as survival analysis for cancer, epilepsy and dental health. This type of research is expected to make a significant impact in decision-making for society and business. His research includes survival modelling, generalized linear models, Meta-analysis, Evidence synthesis analysis, longitudinal data, time series, decision models, health economics, and optimization theory. The applications can be found in prognostic health management, medical science, population health management, sports and health, and management of own business. In the last 5 years, Xin has been awarded several research grants from external and internal research bodies on business analytics.
