Dr Timothy Jung, Director of the Creative AR & VR Hub at Manchester Metropolitan, said: “We are delighted to have signed the MoU with Gyeonggi Content Agency which will enable the UK and South Korean companies to expand their markets in our respective countries.”
“The partnership will see us work together to give businesses working in the field of immersive technology, opportunities to connect and conduct business development, investment and educational activities.”
“It also gives the University scope to continue developing our research in creative technology on an international scale while forging market-leading business links that will benefit our students and business partners.”
Professor Richard Greene, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Research and Knowledge Exchange at Manchester Metropolitan, attended the signing and outlined the impact that the MoU will have on the University’s research.
He added: “I am delighted to sign the MoU agreement which will add to the strength and investment that Manchester Metropolitan has already put into AR and VR.”
“This continuing work will link to other key research areas across the University including Future Economies, the School of Art Research Centre, Advanced Computational Science and Creative Writing, English Literature and Linguistics.”
Gyeonggi Content Agency is a public organisation established in 2001 to foster and support the cultural content industry in South Korea with content covering games, animation, movie and digital convergence.
The agency has dedicated itself to reinforcing the competitiveness of the cultural content industry and, with agreements such as the MoU with Manchester Metropolitan, is contributing to economic growth through efficient and comprehensive support for the content industry.
Chang-Hee Oh, Director of the Gyeonggi Content Agency, said: “We are excited to develop our collaborative partnership with the Creative AR & VR Hub at Manchester Metropolitan University.”
Moonyoung Kang, General Manager of the VR AR Cluster Centre at the Gyeonggi Content Agency, added: “We are delighted to have Manchester Metropolitan as a strategic partner in our global VR and AR alliance partnership. We look forward to working together in our global collaboration project."
The signing of the MoU also included a meeting with Nigel Jones from the Department of International Trade (DIT) Northern Powerhouse to explore future collaborative trade and investment opportunities.
The DIT and Gyeonggi Content Agency are supporting Manchester Metropolitan’s “4th International AR and VR Conference” on the 21st and 22nd June, which will bring together leading experts with international speakers and an exhibition of cutting-edge AR and VR technologies.
