The School is highly regarded regionally, nationally and internationally for the calibre and range of our programmes, teaching and research, which focus on children, young people, families and communities.
We have been at the forefront of development in Early Years and Childhood Studies for over 20 years. Youth and Community Work is even longer established and we are leaders in the field. Over the past 10 years we have also established a strong reputation in Education Studies.
Our Education Studies course offers students the opportunity to follow a specialist pathway in Early Years; Theatre and Performance; Religion and Community; Inclusive Education; International and Primary. We are proud to launch our new degree in Educational Psychology for September 2018, which incorporates a variety of psychological fields such as social, neuro, biological and cognitive psychology.
Within the Faculty of Education, we are a key anchor for community engagement and participation, working with many and diverse partner organisations, including children’s centres, nurseries and schools; local authorities; youth organisations; voluntary, charity and community groups; and arts organisations. We have close links with all key academic and professional associations in the field.
Preparation for future employment is central to our educational experiences – we ensure our students develop the skills and attributes which are crucial for their success in their future careers. All students have access to the School’s enrichment and innovation programme. Students on practice-based courses have access to relevant placements and those on broader-based courses are encouraged to participate in voluntary work.
Our tutors are research-active and have strong links into the Education and Social Research Institute, including international projects. Social enterprise is central to our interests and our partnerships with employers allow for rich knowledge exchange activity. Our ethos is to work collaboratively with communities, both locally and further afield, leading to mutual benefit and impact.
