I am Principal Investigator for the 'Initial Teacher Education for Inclusion' (ITE4I) research project, with Professor Yvette Solomon, in partnership with UCL IoE and UCC, for NCSE in Ireland, 2015-18.

I joined MMU in September 2007 from the University of Birmingham, where I was a Lecturer in Inclusive Education. My previous post was Lecturer in Learning Disability Studies and Research Fellow at the University of Manchester. I have also taught inclusive education as an Associate Lecturer at the Open University and at the University of Bolton.
My professional background is in practicing as an Educational Psychologist, when I was based in Oldham. Prior to that I taught for twelve years at Bolton Community College, as a Lecturer in Disability and Learning Difficulties. Before teaching I worked with children and adults with learning difficulties in voluntary sector and social services settings.

My research interests are in inclusion, diversity and social justice in education, particularly in relation to disability, race/ethnicity and social class. My funded projects have been on ICT and inclusive education; and on teacher education in relation to race and disability. I am also interested in aspects of sociocultural theory as a tool for developing our understanding of more inclusive practices.
