I worked for 10 years in a variety of secondary school settings culminating in becoming head of department. Following that I worked in a local authority setting in an advisory capacity. In 1990 I joined MMU and have worked extensively on the development primary and secondary teacher training programmes.
I mainly teach on the secondary programmes.
My research and academic enterprise interests include exploring the relationships between schools and initial teacher training. I hold an MA in Education. My PhD thesis focused on the influence of increased school-based teacher training on the development of science teacher competence. I have worked as an OFSTED inspector in the secondary sector, for public examination boards and as an external examiner and consultant for a wide range of other initial teacher training providers.
