Teaching: I taught History and French in schools in Trafford, Manchester, Salford and Stockport, working as a Head of Department, Head of Faculty and Assistant Headteacher. For much of this time I was heavily involved in partnership work with MMU, as a Professional Mentor, and with national initiatives to develop ITT capacity in schools. I developed the bid to the Training and Development Agency (TDA) to become a Training School and led the work of the school for three years until I was seconded to a national role in ITT.
ITT/ HEI: I was seconded from school to the TDA for three years to work as a national Training School consultant, supporting over 60 Training Schools across the North West and West Midlands. I then joined MMU as the Head of ITT Partnerships (Primary, Secondary and PCET).
ITT/CPD Policy: I left MMU to take a position at the TDA, initially as a Policy Lead in CPD. I then transferred to DfE and NCTL to work on ITT policy, in particular the development of the teaching school model and then the expansion of School Direct. This involved the assessment of teaching school and SCITT applications and providing ministerial briefings on ITT.
CPD: On leaving the civil service I worked for a private CPD company to develop school partnerships and school-based delivery of their CPD programmes.
