The Department of Engineering comprises more than 60 academic staff and post-doctoral researchers, supported by an experienced technical team and a wide range of specialist equipment and resources.

Teaching and learning in the Department are employability-focused, with a focus on practical skills and knowledge that reflects what students will do in engineering roles when they graduate.
We offer a broad and flexible range of courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in Engineering with a commitment to maintaining our high teaching standards. We place a strong emphasis on computer technology, computer-based design and the application of information technology in engineering. The majority of full-time courses offer a placement year in industry and we have well-established links for study or work experience worldwide.
We have a global student community in the Department and at the University. To support our international students, we are offering ten Dalton International Scholarships for September 2020 entry. This £5,000* scholarship is available for international [non-EU] students who enrol on the following postgraduate programmes:
