Undergraduate courses 2020

Engineering and Product Design

If you have a natural curiosity for how things work and a passion for exploring new possibilities to improve the world we live in, then Engineering offers you the opportunity to make a real difference on a local and global scale.

It’s a subject that mixes disciplines and skills, from physics and mathematics to design and project management. The result is the ability to develop sound conceptual design and take it right through to the perfect finished product.

Study Engineering and Product Design at Manchester Met and you could help build a better future – for yourself, for everyone. This could be creating prosthetics that support the human body, improving the efficiency of infrastructure via electric, autonomous vehicles, or designing products with a sustainable focus for people’s homes. While these challenges are different, all of the solutions are engineering and you could be at the heart of these advancements.

Our reputation

Here in the Department of Engineering, helping you to achieve your career ambitions is at the centre of our approach, which is why lots of your learning will take place through live industry projects, with the support of our specially trained team of academic and technical staff. You’ll even have the opportunity to spend a year in industry if you opt for our placement year route.

We work closely with Professional Bodies affiliated to the Engineering Council UK. We are a proud academic partner of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), which accredits all of our BEng (Hons) degrees and selected courses are also accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). This means that our students will graduate having met part, or all, of the underpinning academic requirement for professional registration as IEng or CEng.
