What do you like most about your course?

The English (BA) course is incredibly well put together. The modules on offer in the first, second and final years are not only informative and thoughtfully constructed as individual modules, but they also flow exceptionally well so as to offer a comprehensive overview of the linear progression of English literature over time. The teaching staff are second to none and their personal interest in every single student is outstanding!

What skills do you feel you have gained during your studies at Man Met?

My critical analysis skills, alongside my ability to construct clear concise arguments, have grown exponentially throughout my time at Man Met. Through literature I genuinely feel my understanding of not only the past, but also the present, has been greatly improved. Studying English at Man Met has without a doubt enabled me to better understand the world I live in.

What is your top tip for other students looking to study this course at Manchester Metropolitan University?

Read, read, read! For anyone studying English my advice would be to change the way you view a degree qualification. To get the most out of the course individuals need to engage fully with the literature. Don’t just think of English as a way to get a job, think of it as a way to interpret the world.

…the quality of the Manchester Met staff who have shown that English Literature is not the sole bastion of the elite or the intelligentsia, and that a decent education should, and can, be available to all.

The thing I love most about Man Met is that when other universities turned their nose up at my application, Manchester Met saw my true potential and welcomed me with open arms!
