Mary is a Technical Officer working mainly on the BA (Hons) Fashion Design & Technology course. Before joining the university, she worked in industry for 26 years in Product Development as a Senior Pattern Cutter/Grader, across Menswear, Ladieswear and Workwear specialising in fit and digital pattern cutting using Gerber technology, garment technology, through to final tech packs in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), liaising with offshore factories and manufacturing to industry standards.

She worked for a bespoke corporate uniform/workwear provider with more than 50,000 customers across the world, creating workwear and uniforms for a wide range of sectors including beauty, hospitality, and healthcare with large international companies such as Emirates, Sodexo, Nando’s, Halfords & the NHS.

Notably Mary was responsible for pattern development for Team GB on the Rio 2016 Olympic games, creating bespoke suiting for formal events in the UK and Brazil, as well as the athlete’s outfits.
Within her current role she supports Undergraduate, Masters and PHD students and works alongside academics supporting teaching of 3D digital design and Clo3D. She is also part of the team who support our Head of Business engagement on bespoke industry led projects.

Her specialist areas include sublimation printing, operating the Gerber single ply cutter, helping students create economical lay plans, cut complicated patterns and providing cut work for teaching.
