The campaign to transform 1,000 lives

First Generation aims to break down barriers to higher education. The programme targets young people who will be the first generation in their family to go to university.

Raising ambitions

First Generation shows young people how universities can change their lives by helping bright young people from Greater Manchester secure an undergraduate place at university, and then provides financial support, and continued professional and personal support throughout their studies and into their careers.

Told by students who have participated in the programme, our video below explains how First Generation can help young people.

Developing confidence

The programme starts with pre-entry (school-aged support) and those that choose to accept a place at Manchester Met benefit from a programme of skills development sessions, financial support through a bursary, mentoring, and the opportunity to attend a work-place residential.

Reaching potential

Your support would fund activities that directly benefit the students in the form of a £1,000 bursary when the student enrols on their first year, and access to employers at work-place residential after Year 1.

Transforming lives

First Generation doesn’t just provide an education for students who study at Manchester Metropolitan, it also has the potential to raise aspirations across the community.

The result for students is a programme that breaks down barriers before, during and after university.

The result for Manchester and the UK is talent unlocked, potential achieved, and lives changed.

First Generation can only happen with the visionary support of our alumni and partners. Join us in our mission to transform 1,000 lives.
