We greatly appreciate the support of our alumni, staff and other benefactors who chose to give back to the University to help the next generation of students.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we were delighted to award 61 of the inaugural First Generation cohort, life-changing bursaries, funded by donations, when they enrolled on their degrees in September 2018.
Hear from some of our supporters
"I donate to First Generation because I believe that everyone with the potential to benefit from a university education should have the opportunity to do so. Education is so important - throughout history it has driven advancement, for individuals and for society. Now, more than ever, it is vital that no talent is wasted."
Jenny Wragge, Executive Advisor to the Vice-Chancellor, Manchester Metropolitan University, First Generation donor
"I attended Manchester Metropolitan as a full-time mature student and the whole experience gave me supreme confidence to take on any future challenge. Giving financial support so that other students can access this same experience, means a great deal to me."
Alison Booth, Dip Sociology 2002 alumna, First Generation donor
"As part of the team who manages First Generation, I have the privilege of meeting our Scholars and prize recipients. I am proud to see that my donations are making a real difference to students' lives and I am delighted to witness their achievements throughout their studies. First Generation is a wonderful initiative and already, many talented and deserving students are benefitting from being on the scheme - we are delighted to welcome our first group to their studies!"
