The Al-Habeeb Scholarship

The Al-Habeeb Scholarship in MA Multimedia Journalism

Thanks to the generous support of graduate Mr Mohammad Habeebullah OBE JP, The Al-Habeeb Scholarship in MA Multimedia Journalism, was established to encourage recipients to champion and promote the issues facing Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities in the United Kingdom through journalism and writing.

Launched in 2013, the scholarship supported students enrolled on the full-time MA in Multimedia Journalism programme, in the Faculty of Humanities, Languages and Social Science at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Meet former recipients of the Al-Habeeb Scholarship

""I am extremely thankful for Al-Habeeb Scholarship as it has opened so many doors for my future in journalism. Writing about BME issues is highly important in creating a platform of support for BME communities to develop, which I will continue to write about and raise awareness to the issues the communities face. Before starting my Masters, I didn't have a journalistic background but I was extremely passionate about the subject. After applying for the course at Manchester Metropolitan, I was very excited to study a course that teaches you to use different media platforms and gain the experience I would need for my career; however, I knew I was going to have financial struggles while studying and this Scholarship helped me financially. I am so very grateful for the support.""

Irfana Navsarka, MA Multimedia Journalism

"I am delighted to be a recipient of The Al-Habeeb scholarship. It means a great deal to me, as without the award, I faced having to study part-time. Now I can use the funding towards my fees and complete my degree in one year. During my studies and after I graduate, I intend to continue to honour the ethos of the Scholarship by writing about the issues facing Black and Minority Ethnic communities, as well as other under-represented social groups."
