As part of an AHRC-funded project (with support from the regional history centre) on the First World War and young people in the North West, Dr Andrew Crome has been working with local school groups to examine the lives of their counterparts during the war.

Through their examinations these groups devised and have publicly performed their own cultural pieces that dealt with the effects of the war on young people. The aim was to investigate such experiences from a different angle and to portray them in a different manner, to engage young people in this topic. 

As part of the project, the team have filmed the research, devising and performance elements with the aim of producing two films. One documenting the process, which will be utilisied as a learning resource and the second integrating the live performances into a documentary-style film that explores some of themes associated with young people's experiences in the war.

The film premieres will take place on 27 September 2017 from 6.30pm in Geoffrey Manton LT 4.

We will be joined by the participants and their families, as well as representatives from the schools and colleges involved and the AHRC centre that has funded the project.

It would be great if you could join us too. This, in many ways, is the end point for the project and I hope it will be a bit of a celebration for the young people's hard work.
