Introduction

You’ll learn from experienced historians and researchers whilst you develop the skills you’ll need for a career in the history and heritage sector. 83% of our research is rated internationally excellent (REF 2021) and you’ll benefit from this in your studies, as well as with access to the Manchester Centre for Public History and Heritage.

With academic expertise ranging from Medieval & Early Modern History, to War & Conflict, to Race & Gender and Country House you’ll be able to tailor the MA History to whatever your research interests are. You can use the skills and experience you develop to progress onto higher studies, or enhance your employability with a placement with one of our extensive network of contacts.

Studying MA Public History and Heritage means you’ll be able to take advantage of the department’s strong links with Manchester’s museums, archives and other heritage organisations and gain direct experience of working in the sector as a professional historian. All of this makes for a liberating year of study where you can focus on your tastes in history.
