"Take advantage of how kind and welcoming all the staff in the History Department are. I would not be the person I am today without their support."
What is your current role and what are your main responsibilities?

I am co-ordinating a piece of research for the Law School. I am scoping out an exciting new project for them and ultimately producing a report based on my findings that will influence their decision… no pressure then!

What did you enjoy most about your degree and why?

It’s difficult to choose just one aspect… I think for me it was studying about world history instead of just European. This unlocked so many exciting new topics to me, and I thoroughly enjoyed every second of learning about the world we live in. I also really enjoyed how much I could shape my own degree. There was such a range of options, and even when there was not an option for what I wanted, I still managed to access information about it! Studying History at Manchester Met really is a unique learning experience. Many of my friends at other universities were always jealous of the topics I got to study!

What key skills did your degree help you gain?

I mastered so many skills during my degree. The most useful so far have been the transferrable research skills that helped me get to my current role. The tutors always gave detailed feedback about our work. This resulted in every new essay I wrote being noticeably superior to the one before.

What is your top tip for other students looking to study your degree course at Manchester Metropolitan University?

Take advantage of how kind and welcoming all the staff in the History Department are. I would not be the person I am today without their support.
