Communications Manager

"I loved that there was so much choice at Man Met – you get out of it what you put in!"
What is your current role and what are your main responsibilities?

As Communications Manager I am responsible for all the Retrak's written communications and create the content for campaigns, reports, newsletters, websites and social media accounts.

What did you enjoy most about your degree and why?

There was a great amount of flexibility in choosing assignments, it enabled me to explore the impact social media has had on politics nationally and internationally. My undergraduate degree meant I had a strong theoretical understanding of social networks, which I was able to put into practice through a placement at Retrak during my MA.

What key skills/achievements did your degree help you gain?

A lot of my assignments were designed to replicate tasks I've since had to perform in a professional capacity, especially writing reports.

Did you do a placement?

I worked during my undergrad and master’s degree at an academy and undertook a placement at Retrak. The placement has completely changed the direction of my career and I now work for Retrak. It's really important to gain some workplace experience especially if you're unsure about which sector you want to work in.

What is your top tip for other students looking to study your degree course at Manchester Metropolitan University?

If you have the option to choose your own topic for an assignment don't be afraid to challenge yourself by posing a question you find interesting.

‘I’m inspired by…’

the impact good communication can have in driving social change. And my mum and dad!

In one sentence, please describe what you loved most about Man Met:

I loved that there was so much choice at Man Met – you get out of it what you put in!
